Sample Opinion Editorial

The following is a sample opinion editorial ("Op-Ed"), which can be submitted to local newspapers. If published, such an editorial can serve as an effective tool to influence and inform the public about the role neighboring plays in building strong communities. It can also garner free publicity for your neighboring initiative and spread the word about your good works.

Your Op-Ed must discuss your specific project and be written with clarity and a measure of passion so that editors will want to print it, and readers will be drawn to it. Most newspapers limit the number of words for each opinion editorial. Typically, the limit is a 750-word maximum. Check with the newspaper before submitting your editorial.

Adapt your op-ed by replacing these references with information specific to your own town and project.

There's another kind of article you can write to raise awareness about your project: a drop-in article.
